Developing Self-Care for your Cancer Journey and Beyond
Receiving a cancer diagnosis is a disorientating and frightening experience. Hospital consultations, no matter how sensitively handled, can also leave you feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable.
I know this from experience and I learned that self-care is the most powerful way to start feeling in control again.
Self-care has many different aspects, including:
Paying attention to your thoughts and feelings. Are you stressed and fearful about your diagnosis or treatment? Are there unresolved issues getting in the way of your healing? Together we can improve your emotional resilience.
Cultivating a positive outlook. Those who feel positive about the future have been shown to fare better than those who are less positive. Together we can help you move from a negative, fearful place to one of positivity and self-compassion.
Listening to your body. Do I need to move or do I need to rest? Am I pushing myself too hard or not doing enough? I can help you start to listen to the subtle signals your body sends you.
Eating well. Choosing foods that are delicious and healthy is an easy way to care for your body and will aid your healing process. I can help you to make changes to your diet that will help your body thrive.
